Wednesday 25 July 2012

Prime Minister's Literary Award Winner for Fiction is...Foals Bread.

What the judges said: 'In this strong field, it was the unanimous decision of the judges that the winner of the 2012 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Fiction we recommend is Gillian Mears for Foal’s Bread. Written in transfixing prose and with an–at times–aching affinity for the harsh landscape the book describes, Foal’s Bread is an extraordinary work of remarkable strength and originality.'

So there it is, whether you liked or it or not, it is a unique book worthy of acknowledgement.

Thursday 21 June 2012

Two titles read and two more selected......

It was great to see everyone return for the second Book Club meet up and welcome some new faces to the group. I hope you all enjoyed the evening discussing 'Foals Bread' and 'Before I go to sleep', trying not to spoil the ending for the half who haven't read them yet!

For a great review of Gillian Mears new book click here. For a great review of S.J.Watson click here

As predicted there were some that loved them, others that didn't but interesting discussion about the writers prose and devices was had.

Happy Reading!

Wednesday 13 June 2012
